Finalist Wimbledon Tennis Both Vegan ?

Finalist Wimbledon Tennis Both Vegan ? “There’s an intriguing fact about this world-class showdown that seems to have slipped under the radar: both finalists, who surpassed 126 of the world’s best tennis players by winning six matches in a row, did so fuelled by a completely plant-based diet…

“One could chalk this up to coincidence were it not for the fact that several of the greatest tennis players of all time have also chosen plant-centred diets, including Serena and Venus Williams, and a generation earlier, Martina Navratilova…

“While the science supporting plant-based performance continues to expand, there are a number of established benefits associated with plant-based eating that may explain why athletes eating this way appear to experience an edge over their competition. These include improved blood flow, which helps provide more oxygen and nutrients to hard-working muscles; increased energy and muscle efficiency, which helps athletes sustain higher power output for longer periods of time; and reduced inflammation, which not only means shorter recovery times after training and competition, but quicker healing after injuries as well.”

A vegan sports bar?

While searching for vegan spots in Portland, SportsBox was one of the first places to pull up, and without hesitation, I made it my second stop on this Pacific Northwest trip. Sports and meat eating seem to be pretty synonymous, so a place like this seems very unique. Only in Portland!

The menu is vast, so I wanted to try as much as I could. So I ordered a burger with tots, a pepperoni pizza, and a breakfast muffin for the next day.

If you’re in Portland and looking for a place to watch football, or even better Cardinals postseason, SportsBox has great options and a very friendly staff.

I apologize for the crappy photos. This restaurant used to be a strip club. And I think they’ve tried to keep that aesthetic.

Watermelon can be a great food

to reach for when you’re experiencing low blood glucose, although it’s not really practical to carry a watermelon and knife around in your bag.

However, if you have a food dehydrator you can make your own watermelon “jerky” which you can stow away in your diabetes kit for easy access in case of low blood glucose.

Unlike most other fruits, watermelons have a high glycemic index because the carbohydrate content of watermelon is almost all in the form of pure glucose instead of fructose, sucrose, starch, or fiber.

Eating watermelon helps raise your blood glucose without requiring your body to convert some other form of carbohydrate into glucose. The watermelon has already done all the work for your body!

In addition to the glucose that watermelons provide you with, watermelons give you the building blocks to produce nitric oxide. This helps to lower elevated blood pressure, support overall cardiovascular health, protect your kidneys, and even improve athletic performance.

Watermelons are also one of the best food sources of lycopene, a carotenoid that supports skin health, eye health, prostate health, and cardiovascular health, and may protect against a variety of cancers.

Looking for another reason to eat watermelons? They’re sweet, hydrating, and don’t require cooking, complicated recipes, or even a bowl. Just cut one open and dig in with a spoon!

Vegan Powerlifting

Ryan J. Stills has just won another world title at the 2022 IPF World Masters Powerlifting Championships in Canada! He won gold for his total in the 120kg weight class. CONGRATULATIONS Ryan!
In 2019, Ryan went vegan for ethical reasons, and had his first international competition as a vegan at the 2021 IPF World Championships, where he won Gold and Best Lifter Overall in the Masters 1 division. A competitive powerlifter for 30 years, when asked how going vegan impacted his strength, Ryan said, “Once I got my caloric intake dialed in, I was putting up some of the best numbers of my lifting career.”

Adding to his amazing achievements, last weekend Ryan captained Plantbuilt’s Powerlifting team at the Mr America sports competition. Everyone on the team won a medal in their respective categories! Well done all! You can definitely be strong eating plants!

CONGRATULATIONS to the three-time Australian and Oceania Bench Champion, @thevegantank
“I got involved in powerlifting to try to show you don’t need animal products to be strong, and hopefully this record goes some way towards supporting that point.”
Noah has never eaten meat and has been vegan since 1991.

His next big comp will be in October, where he will be representing with the Plantbuilt crew at @mr.america_official sports festival in Atlantic City.
